So...I'm tired of religion being an excuse

I recently read an article about gay marriage and had to respond to some of the right wing Christian sects...


To suggest that we maintain religious beliefs as the heart of this country is wrong. Church and state were seperated a long time ago, so those still grasping at straws, let it go. This isn't a religiously ran country...this is a country that holds tights to democracy, and because we do that, we need to set aside religious beliefs and vote for the RIGHTS of PEOPLE...gay, lesbian, black, white, Asian, crippled or mentally retarded, we are all HUMANS and we all should have the same RIGHTS. Additionally the financial upturn would be a huge benefit for California, do we not realize that we are DROWNING in debt? Do we not realize that because we are so concentrated on denying fellow humans RIGHTS that we are causing our children to suffer by laying off teachers? Do you not realize that because we are such a poor state we are turning criminals back to the street as well as laying off police officers?

Set aside the JUDGMENTS oh holier than thou commenters! It is not your job to withhold rights of other humans because your god is hateful of homosexuals. It's that simple. You are believing in a book written by men...a book which the Catholic church purposefully
with held approximately 4945 books. Do we not remember that there are thousands of books the Catholic church deemed unholy? You really believe your god only had the ability to write 55 books? Or are the Catholics wrong and did he write 59?
